Inspiring a future generation
Recently, Premier Jobs UK was thrilled to accept an invite to attend The Ridgeway School & Sixth Form college in Swindon, to inspire students about the world of work. The event was organised and planned by a small group of Year 10 pupils to highlight future careers for 90 of their fellow students. Feedback received from the students included:
I enjoyed the event and heard about careers that I hadn’t ever heard or thought about. Now, I feel I know what recruitment does
I liked when they talked about the skills that employers are looking for because this will be helpful.
Representing the recruitment industry and Premier Jobs UK was Ryan Venner (Sales & Marketing Director) and Jake Hutchings (Recruitment Consultant). During the talk we discussed the following:

- Listening and understanding what both candidates and clients are looking for
- Researching our networks to produce the most appropriate option that matches their desired criteria
- Identifying different methods to source candidates
- Providing professional career advice
Benefits of an apprenticeship
As Premier Jobs UK are advocates of apprenticeships, we were able to highlight to the students the vast array of opportunities now available. As discussed in our blog why should you choose an apprenticeship, we were able to showcase how our own head office team have benefited from choosing the apprenticeship route. Of the students present, some of them had already thought about an apprenticeship, but for the others they were able to learn key statistics such as: 77% remain with the same employer; 25% more employable with a higher apprenticeship and now over 8,000 apprenticeships available!
Using the Premier Jobs UK app
Having developed our own Premier Jobs UK app, the students liked the technology we use to interact with people looking for work via the app and how it provides opportunity to search for your next job, on the move.
Skills employers look for in young people
Over two thirds of the factors employers are looking for in a young person are to do with an individual’s personality, therefore enabling them to have a significant impact on their own future career.
During the careers fair, the students asked some good questions, including:
- How do we find people the job they want?
- How old we were?
- Do we cover any jobs?
- What do we enjoy most about being in recruitment?
Both Ryan and Jake thoroughly enjoyed the experience of talking to the students and will look to undertake other future events to continue encouraging and inspiring the next generation!
