A guide to CF6 and how to revise for it
What is CF6?
CF6 is the level 3 compulsory unit students have to take, alongside either R01 or CF1, on the way to complete the Certificate in Mortgage Advice (which is a CeMAP equivalent).
It is one exam, three hour exam, that is broken down into two sections:
“Section A consists of 100 multiple choice questions. A multiple choice question consists of a problem followed by four options, labelled A, B, C and D, from which the candidate is asked to choose the correct or best response. Each question contains only one correct response to the problem posed. One mark is awarded for each correct response identified by the candidate. No mark is awarded if the candidate chooses an incorrect response, chooses more than one response or fails to choose any response. No marks are deducted for candidates choosing an incorrect response.
Section B consists of five case studies each followed by five questions. Four options follow each question. The options are labelled A, B, C and D. Only one of these options will be correct or best. One mark is awarded for each correct response identified by the candidate. No mark is awarded if the candidate chooses an incorrect response, chooses more than one response or fails to choose any response. No marks are deducted for candidates choosing an incorrect response.”

How to revise for CF6
When studying CF6 the emphasis should be placed on memorising the content, so it is key that you quickly identify how you best absorb information. This is especially important when considering that in 2020 pass rate for this unit was 84%.
- Flashcards – Create a series of flashcards when working through content. There are a number of free online apps that you can make flashcards on or alternatively you can buy physical blank cards and handwrite them if you prefer.
- Recording – An underrated tip can be to record yourself reading aloud the content and then listening back to it. Many people may be hesitant to do this step, but at the end of the day, it’s only you that’s listening to it; so don’t worry!
- Testing – It is important to then put this revision into practice and test yourself. This is where using revision cards can be useful as when you test yourself you can focus on topics that you have got incorrect to better target your study time
Additionally, for those not active in the industry, when preparing for the case study section it can be useful to try and speak to anyone in the job you know. They should be able to provide more information regarding various different scenarios both common and uncommon. This can massively help you and your understanding, even if it’s not in the exam, in relation to your wider career.
